How do I get started?
Using the Top Banana Shopping Guide, make up your grocery list and give us a call. We'll review with you exactly how the process works.

Where do you deliver? How often?
We deliver weekly. We offer service in all of Prince George's County in MD and Washington, D.C., and much of Montgomery and Charles Counties in MD. Each area has a specific order and delivery day.

Can I order by telephone?
YES! Talk to a live person—no computerized voices or menus to wade through. You can also fax or email your order in after initial customer communication has been established; fax number: 301-372-3662. Contact us if you would like to set up an account to order by email.

Can I order online?
The telephone continues to be our first means of communication. How else can we get to know our special customers? Top Banana is currently scanning our entire inventory into a computer to streamline our operations. These updates are bringing us closer to online ordering but that feature is a future enhancement. Please note that our catalog can be viewed online.

Do you have age requirements?
NO, any adult can use our service.

Do I sign a contract?
NO, just call when you want to place an order; one time, sometimes or every week!

How does it work?
Weekly orders and deliveries are made based on where you live.

1. To place an order, call on your designated call-in day, Monday or Wednesday, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (see Order and Delivery Schedule). (The best time to call is mid-day when the phones are least busy.) A friendly, knowledgeable order-taker will enter your order in the computer.

2. Next, groceries are carefully pulled from our own storehouse, checked, bagged and prepared for delivery. To make sure that you receive only the freshest items, perishable goods are purchased at the last minute from long-time, trusted vendors.

3. Grocery delivery in climate-controlled trucks is made on your designated delivery day, either Wednesday or Friday. As a non-profit, we monitor every expense closely. Delivery routes are arranged in the most efficient manner to conserve gas and time. Please refrain from making appointments on delivery day since delivery times vary. If an appointment is unavoidable on delivery day, please inform your order-taker what other arrangements you have made for grocery delivery. For convenience, get your approximate delivery time by calling the office after 10:00 a.m. on the day between order and delivery. By then, our routes and deliveries are set.

4. Payment is made at the time of delivery. The receipt you receive will list each item, with the price, all discounts/reduced fees and the service fee.

How can I pay?
We accept cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and SNAP benefits (food stamps). Credit/debit cards are processed on the day between order and delivery. SNAP payments are either mailed on the first business day following delivery or, if info is provided for electronic processing, the SNAP card is debited on the day before order and delivery. Checks are debited on the Monday following delivery. You can even set up a pay-ahead retainer account or purchase GIFT CARDS available in $25, $50, $75, and $100 denominations.

What is the cost?
Your cost includes the price of your groceries plus a nominal service charge of $15–$5 depending on your ability to pay. If $15 is more than you feel you can afford, we encourage you to submit the Reduced Service Charge* request form. Our minimum order is only $25, and you may order as much as you like.

Prices may vary from the posted Shopper's Guide. However, you always pay fair market prices for groceries based on periodic comparisons with commercial internet grocery providers.

Top Banana now accepts manufacturers coupons. Clip and save with every order! Ask your order-taker about the latest grocery sales. When there are sales, a flyer will be included with your order, or ask us to mail you one. Please note: Top Banana is mindful of the current economic times and is determined not to pass on all price increases to our customers.

Highly perishable items are purchased specifically for your order. So when an order is cancelled or undeliverable, these items cannot be resold as they won't meet our freshness standards for another customer. Regrettably, we must enforce a 20% restocking fee for all non-emergency cancelled orders, undeliverable orders or for any items removed from an order after 10 a.m. on the day between order and delivery.

*Please note that our ability to offer a reduced service charge to eligible customers is made possible by the generous support of local and county agencies and the community campaigns you see below. To learn more, please go here.

How reputable is Top Banana and your employees?
We have been serving clients just like you since 1982. We are part of SeniorChecked, a network of trusted providers that adheres to the highest professional standards and sound business practices.

In an effort to reduce the risk and incidence of fraud against seniors, SeniorChecked has developed a free network of screened businesses. You can feel confident that our service and employees have passed the industry's most comprehensive set of background checks. So, you can feel safe and secure using our grocery shopping service.

Where do your products come from?

We maintain top quality by delivery from our professional storehouse. Most of our products come from the same reputable suppliers used by area supermarkets.

Meats, cut to your order, are from a local butcher with whom we have worked for years. Farm-fresh produce comes from a variety of sources—some from local markets and, seasonally, we get pesticide-free produce from a local farmer.

Will you bring the groceries into the kitchen?
YES, groceries are put exactly where you want them. PLUS, we'll even put the groceries away, if needed.

What if I want something you don't carry?
Our inventory changes regularly to reflect the needs and tastes of our customers. We maintain a "wish list" of requests. If an item on the list is requested enough, we will attempt to stock it. Items that don't sell are eliminated from inventory.

Do you sell my information to anyone else?
NEVER!
