"My mother is a customer of Top Banana. It has truly been a godsend for her. She lives at B’nai B’rith Homecrest House, is almost 90, has very limited vision and is on Food Stamps. In the last couple of years it has been progressively harder for her to get to a grocery store and be able to shop, much less see what she is shopping for. When she realized that having groceries delivered was her only option, I found, much to my surprise, that Giant and Safeway, while taking Food Stamps in-store will not accept them for deliveries.
Top Banana is very much a delivery service that caters to elderly people and we were delighted to find that they take Food Stamps. At first I was ordering for my mother, but she has been able to do it for herself for a while now with a magnifying glass. She is amazed at the variety of both food and non-food products in the catalog. It is, literally, a life line for her and I am truly grateful to everyone at Top Banana for providing this crucial service.
Everyone we have spoken to is pleasant, cheerful, and helpful. It is an exceptional and trouble-free way for elderly people to get groceries and other products they need. I applaud Top Banana and hope they are around for a long, long time to come."
"Take it from a woman in her eighties with failing vision and no means of transportion, Top Banana is much more than a grocery delivery service. I found it to be a savvy program with a helpful and efficient staff that goes the extra mile for those who are housebound or no longer drive.
"This is an award winning nonprofit. The cost is right, the people are caring, everyone ends up winning."
"Top Banana has been a Godsend. I am now fully recovered from my knee surgery and am able to drive again."
"My family does so much for me. This is something I can do for myself."
"My doctor said if I don't get more to eat, I'll end up in a nursing home."
"All you people were so helpful. I'll call again in a couple of weeks. I'm so glad I found you."
"I want people who understand and care about seniors to deliver my mother's groceries."
"I was afraid my stuff would be dented or squashed or melted or something, but everything was just perfect."
"I used to love to go to the grocery store but now I wait as long as I can to go. I'm so tired when I get back it's all I can do to find the cold stuff and put it away. The rest I just leave in the bags."
"The lady just delivered my groceries. She's the same person I talked to on the phone! She's so nice. I just had to call and tell you how wonderful everything is. I got everything I ordered. I love the way you bag it. All my frozen stuff was together and the refrigerator stuff in another bag. It didn't take any time to put it away."
"My daughter flies down from Massachusetts once a month to take care of things and run errands for me, but sometimes I run out."
"I didn't want anyone to know [I couldn't shop]. I am not ready to be put in a nursing home."
"I can do my own shopping now, and I don't have to ask anyone for help."
"I take the senior bus; it comes here twice a week, but the stores are so big and my arthritis is really getting bad."
"I have always been independent and I'm going to stay that way. I want to buy what I want. I sure don't want anybody to tell me what to do at this late date."
"My neighbors say they'll pick up some groceries for me, but you know that gets to be a burden pretty quick."
"I ran my own business for 40 years. I know how expensive it is. I don't see how you can keep the prices down and do all this for so little."
"Sometimes I have to wait so long for a cab that by the time I get home, my frozen things are melted."
"I look forward to delivery day. I go through the bags, and it feels like my birthday or something."
"We brought my father home from the hospital today; they told us about you. I've been here a couple of weeks, and I've found help for everything they need except groceries. I can't believe you do this. You don't know what a relief this is to me."
"I take a cab to get to most places, but I have a heart condition and my doctor says I shouldn't carry more than 5 pounds. This is less expensive than taking a cab all the time."
"My father was a butcher, so I know good meat. I haven't had meat with this much flavor in years."
"I wish I hadn't waited so long to use you. I just kept putting it off. I guess I thought it would cost too much but it is worth every penny!"
